The Zetland
The Zetland, a stunning grade II listed building, without doubt, one of Saltburn’s most prominent & finest landmarks. Believed to be one of the world’s first purpose built railway hotels with its own private platform, The Stockton and Darlington Railway Company constructed The Zetland Hotel in 1863 to a lavish scale in order to attract a wealthy class of clientele. It is believed that Queen Victoria stayed here during a visit to the town. By the early 1970s the number of visitors to the town had dropped. Many hotels struggled to survive and were forced to close. Eventually, the Zetland Hotel closed in 1983 and was converted and revived into luxury apartments in 1989. The station platform, canopy and railway buffer and many other original features can still be seen. The building is now known simply as 'The Zetland’.
